FAQs

Donors

  • Q. Who gets the PC I donate? (also see What are the criteria for beneficiary selection?)
    A. NGOs, charitable trusts and organizations working on not for profit basis.
  • Q. How can I know if my PC can be donated?
    A. Very important question indeed! The minimum acceptable configuration for PCs is:
    RAM: 128 MB
    HDD: 20 GB
    Processor: Intel Pentium 2
    Operating System: Windows 2000/ME
The PC may be slow but it must not be facing any hardware issues (due to faulty motherboard, RAM, processor, HDD etc.).
  • Q. Ummm... my PC is not working but many of the internals are in working state? Can I donate this PC?
    A. Well, since the PC is not working you can't donate it as PC, but you can donate the 'internals' as peripherals. By 'internals' we mean things like RAM, Hard Disk, Motherboard, Graphics Card, Sound Card etc. The internals can be used to upgrade other donated PCs. There is no minimum configuration for peripherals so you should just make sure that the hardware should be in working state.
  • Q. What peripherals can I donate?
    A. You can donate following peripherals:
    1. Mouse
    2. Speakers (in highest demand)
    3. Monitor
    4. Printer
    5. Keyboard
Apart from these, you can donate PC internals like RAM, Hard Disk, Motherboard, Graphics Card, Sound Card etc.
  • Q. Can I cancel a donation request?
    A. Sure you can. Just send us an email at donate@donateyourpc.in with subject line: "DONATION CANCEL REQUEST".
  • Q. How can I be sure that my PC is put to good use and not sold to a junk-dealer?
    A. Rest assured. At DYPC we make it 100% sure that your computer goes to the needy through a reputed NGO. You will be issued a certificate of donation from the NGO.
  • Q. In which cities is DYPC active currently?
    A. We started in Hyderabad, Pune and Bangalore and are now active in Delhi-NCR and Kolkata also. However we are trying to increase our volunteer network and very soon we will be in many more cities. Why don't you join us a volunteer and take DYPC to your own city!
  • Q. Who will take care of transportation of PC?
    A. The beneficiaries shall take care of transportation but if donor is comfortable,he/she can take on this responsibility.

Requesters

  • Q. What are the criteria for beneficiary selection?
    A. If you want to request a PC from DYPC, you should be a registered Government or Non-Government Organization (NGO) working on not-for-profit basis. However final decision about accepting or rejecting a request lies with DYPC and can not be challenged.
  • Q. How much does it cost?
    A. There is no facilitation cost but beneficiaries will need to pay for transportation.
  • Q. In which cities can I send requests?
    A. You can send us request from any city. If there are any DYPC volunteers in your city, we can help you in transportation as well. Currently we try to map your request to an offer matching your need, within your city but in future we may try to transport hardware across cities if your city doesn't have any matching offers.
  • Q. I need PCs as well as peripherals, should I send different requests for both?
    A. While filling up the request form, you can select PC as well as peripherals and fill in the details.
  • Q. I have raised a request, when will I get the hardware?
    A. We understand your needs and urgency but you must understand that fulfillment of your request depends on someone else's donation which is not in our hands. We are as much concerned with fulfilling your request as you are, and will let you know as soon as we have something that suits your requirements.
  • Q. How many PCs can I request?
    A. We got a request for, hold your breath, 300 computers. We are not computer manufacturers, we ask others to donate their old hardware. Such donations can be few and far between, so we urge you to request a realistic number of PCs or peripherals. Keep your requests to 1 or 2 PCs at a time, you can always request for more later. Even if you request 10 at a time and there are smaller requests, we will try to accomodate those requests also. So you may get 2 and someone else requesting 1 or 2 may get 1 as well.
  • Q. Can I cancel the request?
    A. Yes you can. Send us a mail at contact@donateyourpc.in with subject "REQUEST CANCELLATION : ".
  • Q. I like the PC which is being offered by some donor. How do I send a request for that?
    A. Send us a mail at contact@donateyourpc.in mentioning the donor's name and hardware you are interested in.
